What are the duties of table tennis referees and deputy referees?

In table tennis competition, the referee is responsible for ensuring that the game is carried out according to the procedure, and the assistant referee is responsible for cooperating with the referee and doing a good job under the leadership of the referee.

1. Check the venue before the game starts. The referee must arrive at the venue half an hour in advance according to the time stipulated in the order book and make good preparations. When the chief referee receives the name plate and number plate of the first team obtained by the deputy referee, he should check it with the order book. After entering the venue, check the referee's chair, hang up the fire number plate of the famous brand, check the overall situation, then check the network with the assistant referee and open the entrance of the competition area. The assistant referee takes out the name plate or number plate of the first game from the equipment group and submits it to the referee. After entering the arena, he checked the scoring table (whether there is a spare net in the drawer, a ruler for measuring the net, two boxes of table tennis balls and a rag), checked the scoring device, put the stopwatch on the scoring table, and then checked the net with the referee.

2. Preside over the athletes' practice. Before the official competition, the host athletes should be familiar with the venue. The referee throws the ball to the server, announces "practice for two minutes" and gestures, then sits in the referee's chair. When the practice has been carried out to 1 minute and 20 seconds, the assistant referee announces the opening remarks, checks the score display, starts the timer, monitors the practice time, checks the name plate or number plate, and signals the referee in time if there are any mistakes.

3. Hold a formal competition. When the referee heard the assistant referee shout "Time is up", he immediately "stopped practicing", took back the ball, then threw it to the server, announced the start of the game, and announced "XX serve (pointing at the server with a gesture at the same time), 0-0". When the referee reports 0-0, the assistant referee turns the score display to 0-0. Start the timer at the first goal to monitor the game time.
