Rules of Sudirman Cup Competition

Sudirman Cup is the World Badminton Mixed Team Championship. The competition requires both sides to compete in five events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. Before the competition, the order of the five events will be decided by drawing lots.

The competition is divided into two stages: group round robin and knockout. Five matches have been played in the group stage, and the team that won three matches in the knockout stage wins. Players can't participate in more than two competitions (each player can only participate in two competitions at most), and the team that gets the top two is eligible to participate in the knockout.

In the knockout stage, the champion and runner-up were decided, and the team that lost in the semi-final tied for third place; The team that lost in the quarter-finals tied for fifth place; The team that finished third in the group stage tied for ninth place. The other two groups play round robin, and the group ranking is decided according to the results.

In addition, not all teams participating in the Sudirman Cup are eligible to win the championship. The Sudirman Cup adopts the "promotion and demotion" system, and only teams participating in A-level competitions are eligible to compete for the championship. After each cup, the last team in the A-level competition will be relegated to the B-level, and it will miss the championship competition in the next competition. The first place in the B-level team can be promoted to A-level.

In the first eight Sudirman Cups, there were only six A-level teams; In the 9th Sudirman Cup, A-level teams expanded to 8 teams; Starting from the 12th Sudirman Cup on 20 1 1, the number of teams participating in the highest-level A-level competition in Sudirman Cup has increased to 12.

The origin of Su Cup:

After Thomas Cup, Uber Cup and World Championships, in order to improve the comprehensive strength level of badminton in the world, the proposal of holding mixed team competitions was put forward for the first time at the 1986 International Badminton Federation Council meeting.

1987, the International Badminton Federation decided to add the World Mixed Badminton Team Championship and Sudirman Cup as the champion trophy. 1988, the International Badminton Federation accepted and designated the mixed team event and the one-way championship to be held at the same time, and decided to take the Sudirman Cup as the champion trophy of the mixed team event.

During 1989, the first Sudirman Cup and the sixth World Badminton Championship were held in Indonesia at the same time. At the same time, it is stipulated that this competition will be held every two years, with Tang Cup and Youbei held in even years and Sudirman Cup held in odd years.
