It is Tuolin Temple, located at the west foot of Lushan Mountain in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. Because it is located in the east of Selinki, it is named Torinki. This temple was built in the 9th year of Dayuan in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (384) by Hui Yuan, a Buddhist master, with a history of 1600 years. It is one of the oldest temples on Lushan Mountain.
Tolin Temple is the birthplace of Pure Land Sect of Buddhism (also known as Lotus Sect), which became one of the eight Buddhist Dojo in China during the Han and Tang Dynasties. Monk Jian Zhen once came here to study, and later he brought Lindongism to Japan. Therefore, Torinji is regarded as the ancestral home by the Pure Land Sect and Pure Land Sect of Japanese Buddhism, and Hui Yuan is also regarded as the ancestor by Lindong Sect of Japan. Every year, a large number of Japanese Buddhists come to Tolin Temple to worship and sincerely worship Buddha. For thousands of years, Toringi has been devastated by war and years, and has been abandoned and risen again and again. To this day, a large number of people come to burn incense and worship Buddha every day, and the incense is very strong.
Historically, Tolin Temple was the center of southern Buddhism, and many celebrities became attached to it, such as Tao Yuanming, Xie Lingyun, Meng Haoran, Jian Zhen, Bai Juyi, Liu Gongquan, Wang Anshi, Su Dongpo, Yue Fei, Zhu, Kang Youwei and so on. Tolin Temple has a long history and far-reaching influence, and is listed as a national key temple by the state. The Lindong Giant Buddha in the temple is the highest golden Buddha in the world, with an investment of several billion yuan and 48 kilograms of gold plating. In addition to the world's highest golden Buddha, there are many cultural relics in Tolin Temple, such as the classic building of the sacred Tolin Temple in Tang Dynasty, the translation platform, the remnant tablet of Liu Gongquan, the inscription by Kang Youwei, the tablet of Hui Yuan Mountain Master by Xie Lingyun, and the poem tablet by Wang Yangming.
As a pure land Sect, Torin Temple has exchanged Buddhist activities with the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries in the world. It is a window for Jiangxi Buddhism to communicate with other countries. What's more, as a tourist attraction and a religious shrine, Toringi never accepts tickets. Compared with other commercial temples, Tolin Temple can better reflect the equality of all beings, and everyone can watch it for free, regardless of class or wealth. Not only are there no tickets, burning incense and worshiping Buddha are free, as long as you sincerely worship Buddha.
However, there is a kind of people who are forbidden to enter Tolin Temple. People wearing short sleeves, shorts and short skirts are not allowed to enter unless they wear Buddhist robes of Tolin Temple. Besides, in Tolin Temple, tourists are not allowed to cuddle and be very much in love, otherwise they will be invited out of the temple, because this is the Western Heaven.
