The History and Culture of Xindu Town

The people of Xindu have always been hardworking and simple, with profound cultural heritage. Xindu has several large-scale festival customs, such as lion and dragon dancing, dragon boat racing on the Dragon Boat Festival, drinking Yinhe water on the seventh day of July, Mid-Autumn Festival, and eating Gollum from winter to Sunday. The most famous is the Xindu Dragon Boat Race on the sixth day of May every year. This kind of dragon boat race is a traditional folk activity in Xindu Town, which has been spread since Qianlong Jiaqing. Every year from 5: 00 pm to 6: 00 pm on the fifth day of May, people in Xindu will meet "dragon boat relatives" in the river. Every year on the sixth day of the fifth lunar month, people in Xindu and its neighboring towns such as Renyi, Pumen and Lingfeng will spontaneously participate in the folk dragon boat race on Hejiang in Xindu Town. The villages along the Xindu River have created a dragon boat rafting trip. The dragon boat is about 20 meters long and has 20 seats, each with 2 people. A dragon boat can seat 20 to 30 people. There are fish, shrimp and crabs painted on both sides of the dragon boat. The bow is equipped with a faucet and the stern is equipped with a wooden rudder shaped like a dragon's tail. When rowing, the bow is bulging, the gong is in the middle, and the stern is at the helm. With the rhythm of drums, the sailors paddled hard and the scene was still spectacular. Because some dragon boats are far away from the waterway, it is difficult to go back after the game in Xindu that day, so the villages on both sides of Xindu put the dragon boats in the distance with people for the night, and then go back the next day after eating, which deepened their feelings. This custom has continued to this day, and the locals call it "Dragon Boat Relatives". There was a poet who praised the local custom of dragon boat racing in Xindu:

Crossing the water to race the dragon boat, the flag clouds move like the sea.

The southern Xinjiang song and dance day is full of gongs and drums.
