Why is it called figure skating

What is figure skating?

Figure skating is one of the ice sports. Use skates to slide out figures on the ice, or jump, rotate and perform various dance movements that combine art, including single skating, double skating, ice dancing and team skating. Figure skating, as a sport, appeared in Britain in the middle of18th century and rose in Europe and America in the middle of19th century. 1892 The International Skating Federation was established to formulate competition rules and decide to hold the World Figure Skating Championships and the European Figure Skating Championships once a year.

Single skating is divided into men's single skating and women's single skating, which consists of short programs and free skating.

Double skating includes short programs and free skating. Must be composed of a man and a woman. Typical movements are single-arm or double-arm head-raising, double-rotation, spiral, throw-jump, twist, lift and so on. In addition, you can also complete all the free sliding actions of single sliding.

Ice dancing consists of three parts: voluntary dance, creative dance and free dance. The action score of the specified dance accounts for 30% of the final total score. Every year, the technical committee of the International Skating Federation announces four required dances, including a waltz. Before the competition, the two required dances were decided by drawing lots. The score of each dance in the competition includes technical score and rhythm/performance score. Choreography is a group of dances, such as tango, which are arranged according to the prescribed rhythm. Dance has the characteristics of social dance. The specified time is 2 minutes. Grading includes arrangement and performance. The score of choreography accounts for 30% of the total score. Free dance refers to a set of dances with optional footwork and innovative choreography. It is necessary to reflect the characteristics, ideas, arrangement, technical difficulties and sliding techniques of self-selected music. The game lasted for 4 minutes. The score includes technical level score and artistic impression score, and the score accounts for 50% of the total score.

The short program includes 8 prescribed movements, and the score accounts for one third of the total score of the players. Athletes complete all the required movements within a limited time, accompanied by music of their own choice. The arrangement of the whole program was creatively conceived by the athletes themselves. The short program of single skating and double skating is 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Short program scoring includes two items: required action scoring and performance scoring.

The result of free skating accounts for the remaining two-thirds of the total score of the players. Athletes complete their optional movements with the accompaniment of optional music within a limited time. The referee scores athletes according to their difficulty, type, cleanliness, elegance and speed. The required time for men's single skating is 4 minutes and 30 seconds, for women's single skating is 4 minutes and for pairs skating is 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
