The Character Life of Master Yingci

Old Master Ying Ci (1873- 1965) has a common surname, many names, and his name is Zhenqing, and his law number is obvious. In his later years, he didn't send flowers to the old man. My ancestral home is Shexian County, Anhui Province. His father is a salt merchant family in the upper reaches of Xin 'anjiang River, and his family is rich. Ying Ci's father died when he was young. During pregnancy, his mother dreamed that a monk's name would lead to a stone and then give birth to a mage.

Because his mother believes in Buddhism and Taoism, every day when she recites incantations such as "King Kong", "Amitabha" and "Compassion", the mage likes it when she hears it and secretly recites it. /kloc-When she was 0/2 years old, she became a vegetarian with her mother. My mother saw that Yingci was kind, intelligent and progressive when he was a child, and hoped that he would take the road of being a scholar. The mage didn't live up to his mother's expectations and was really admitted to the scholar. At that time, the country was at home and abroad, the Sino-Japanese Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 broke out, the Qing government was corrupt and incompetent, and seeing the country declining, the mage had no interest in his career. Mother wanted him to get married as soon as possible, so she married him, thinking that he should at least keep the legacy left by his father. Who knows that his wife died soon after marriage. His mother married him again and died soon after. So neighbors and relatives and friends privately said that he was a "monk's life." After hearing these words, the mage can't help feeling the illusion and impermanence of secular life. He thinks that getting married again doesn't mean that people will be covered up. Mindful of this layer, Master Ying Ci couldn't bear it, so he sent out the idea of practicing at home. The middle-aged man shaved, like his brother Xia Yue, and spread to the 42nd Lin Jizong under the big eyes of Zen Buddhism in Tianning Temple in Changzhou. After learning Hua Yan's teaching method by herself, Yingci accompanied Xia Yue for twelve years, respecting teachers and making unremitting efforts. When Hua Yan University was founded in Shanghai in the summer, he served as a deputy to help him. 19 17 years ago, Xia Xia tried to shake hands with him and told him, "Don't be an abbot in Huayanli, Hongshan." Since then, Yingci has always abided by Fage's teachings and has never changed. He traveled around the country to promote Hua Yan as a career. According to incomplete statistics, he gave lectures more than 30 times from 1908 to 1958. Most of them have talked about many classics at once, but they have never held the post of abbot. They also established Huayan Accelerated Normal College, Liang Qing College and Huayan College in Changzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai respectively to train talents for Buddhist education.

1898, Shi said goodbye to his family and went to Putuo Mountain in the South China Sea, vowing to keep the pure land of Buddhism. I happened to meet the Ming Zen master of Sansheng Temple in Nanjing on the way. Ying Cili asked the Ming Zen master to accept himself as a disciple and listen to his life story clearly, lest he, a rich disciple, could not bear the pain of Buddhism and could not write Sanskrit, so he offered conditions to test him for three years to see his mind. Since then, Yingci has changed the living habits formed in the vulgar era, dressed crudely and worked tirelessly. Indeed, in the past three years, he observed his behavior clearly and thought he could teach his son, so he shaved his head and became a monk for him.

1900, Yingci asked for precepts under the seat of the Zen master, and then studied Zen with Dading monks in Jinshan Temple, Zhenjiang. 190 1 to 1902, Tianzhu Yun Qi Temple was a ritual system in the autumn dynasty, and it was held in Lingyin Temple and Zhaoqing Temple in West Lake for two years. /kloc-in the autumn of 0/903, he was ordered by the master to go to Kaining Temple in Changzhou for meditation. One day, he entered the meditation hall to answer the question of master Ye Kai, who asked, "Who is chanting Buddha?" Answer: "Nobody, nobody!" From this, he gained the esteem of Master Ye Kai, and was introduced as a disciple by Master Ye Kai together with Ming Jing, Xia Yue and Wei Kuan in 1904, and was recorded as the 42nd Linjizong. Later, Master Xia Yue participated in the study of Hua Yan Yin Yi, which lasted for 12 years. 19 17, master Xia Yue passed away, and he followed his teacher's last wish "Li Honghua said he would not be an abbot".

To educate all beings, a mage must first correct himself and subdue others with his "sincerity" and "righteousness". Once, an old layman listened to other people's rumors, broke into his room and slapped him. At that time, Master Ying Ci was chanting scriptures. This sudden slap knocked off all his hats. After seeing who the visitor was, he bent down to pick up his hat from the ground, put it on and continued to read his scriptures. After a while, things became clear, and the layman came to apologize and asked for repentance. Master Ying Ci smiled and said, "I don't know if I'm guilty. It's valuable to admit my mistake."

Mages are usually easygoing, but they strictly abide by the Buddha's rituals and follow the teachings. They are indomitable and rugged. Once, he had dinner with his disciples, and they kept talking. Without saying a word, Master Ying Ci stood up silently and wrote a poem, criticizing the bad habit of saying homely words when eating. From then on, the disciples never talked about family affairs at dinner. In the first year of the Republic of China, he and the master Xia Yue founded Huayan University in Harbin, Shanghai. Here, in addition to teaching Buddhism, he also insists on practicing meditation every day. Later, Luo Jialing, the owner of the garden, asked the wizards to worship his master on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar calendar every month. Master Ying Ci and Master Xia Yue insisted on the principle that monks should not visit their families at home and went to Hangzhou to continue running schools.

The mage studied Confucianism before becoming a monk, so he has a deep foundation for this. After becoming a monk, when giving lectures, he often melts Confucianism into Buddhism, requiring those who study Buddhism to be gentlemen first and then study Buddhism well. Only in this way can we grasp our own truth and roots and move towards a free and liberated life in ecstasy and ignorance. He believes that the five precepts of Buddhism are similar to the Confucian spirit of benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom and trust. He believes that Buddhism advocated by Buddhism is inseparable from the world, and the idea of skillful Buddhism can be understood as sincerity and governor. He advocates that practitioners should get rid of all things and feelings, overcome all puzzles and get rid of falsehood ideologically. Only in this way can they be unmoved, fixed, become wise, and feel themselves and others. This is the way to learn Buddhism. He insists that Buddhism saves the world, and the first thing is to save people's hearts. He used the wisdom of harmony and his participation in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism to penetrate the spirit of all beings, so that these people who are obsessed with feelings can get a spiritual liberation. Although the situation was changeable at that time, the domestic military atmosphere was excited and the wind and cranes were frequently frightened, the mage was still able to overcome all kinds of difficulties, adhere to his teachings, show Mahayana and increase diplomatic difficulties for the world.

In his later years, he settled in the Yinyue Zen Room of Shanghai Ciyun Temple, and still promoted Hua Yan as his career. 1949 studied under Du Shun, the early ancestor of Huayan in Fayun Temple, and went to Nanjing to lecture on Huayan Sutra. 1954 was elected as the "representative of the first Shanghai Municipal People's Congress" and was re-elected in subsequent sessions. At the same time, he was elected honorary president of Shanghai Buddhist Association. 1957, at the age of eighty-five, he taught Hua Yan Jing at the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai. In the same year, he was elected as the vice president of the Chinese Buddhist Association. 1962, at the third congress of the Chinese Buddhist Association, he was elected honorary president of the Buddhist Association, and concurrently served as vice president of China Buddhist College. 1August 3, 9651died in Shanghai Ciyun Temple at the age of 93 and 67. The mage shrine was personally escorted by the true Zen master to Xiaofu Temple in Yushan, Changshu, and entered the tower.

1965, Master Ying Ci died at the age of 93. He had been a monk for 63 years.
