Rules of the knockout round

Exclusion rule:

1. Usually, the number of participants in a single defeat knockout is a power of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16). For example, Wimbledon's singles event has 128 players, which ensures the same number of matches for both sides in each round.

2. The competition can be scheduled or decided after each round of competition. If there is no rotation, half of the players will be eliminated in each round. When there are only eight players left, this round is called "1/4 final", and the other four players are "semi-finals". Winners will meet in "finals" or tournaments to determine the reputation of the champion.

3. When the number of participants in the single-defeat knockout is not a power of 2, some contestants are allowed to "take turns to play" and automatically enter the next few rounds without competition. Usually, the discount of rotation will be given to the player who ranks higher in the game.

Characteristics of single elimination tournament

Single elimination tournament: a competition mode suitable for too many teams, which can reduce the schedule, complete the competition in a limited time, and determine the order of the competition by drawing lots, which embodies the principle of fairness and justice and is a system with a wide scope of application.

The advantage is that the two sides of the game are highly antagonistic, there is no possibility of compromise, and they are not influenced or influenced by the third party. If they win or lose, they lose the right to continue the game once. It can accommodate more athletes or teams to participate in the competition, with short time and small space. The disadvantage is that most athletes or teams have few competitions, strong opportunities and poor ranking rationality.
