Is Mazu on Meizhou Island really a god who sacrifices to the living?

It's definitely not true.

Mazu Golden Body, also known as "Mazu in the sky", is located in Mazu Tempel, Meizhou, Xiuyu District, Putian City, Fujian Province. The golden body of Mazu in the middle of Mazu Tempel Shrine in Meizhou is not made of gold, which means that Mazu is "precious" and "supreme".

Mazu's golden body is also called "Mazu in the sky" because of the customs in Meizhou Island. Every year before the Lantern Festival, the believers on the island will invite Mazu's golden body to every household and offer it devoutly, so as to achieve peace all the year round. As a ancestral temple, many pilgrims come here every day to worship Mazu. Behind it, there is a statue of Mazu in the town hall. When Mazu went on a tour, Mazu in the town hall was enshrined by believers in the temple. There is also a statue of Mazu in Yuan Dynasty in the incense niche, which is the treasure of the town temple.
