Each district 16 team is divided into four groups for home and away double round robin. Different from the past, due to Singapore's withdrawal from the AFC Champions League and the uneven number of teams in East and West Asia, the AFC drew from West Asia to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the play-offs in East Asia. The play-off final was held on February 6, 2009. The first round of this year's AFC Champions Group will be held in March12, and the final round will be held in May10/1. The top two players in each group will enter the top eight in each district. After qualifying, the group adopts the single elimination system, and the first place in the group occupies the home advantage. East Asia and West Asia each play a semi-final, and draw lots to decide the outcome.
