The Champions League places are allocated according to the UEFA club coefficient, and the Premier League has four direct promotion places. There are 26 teams directly entering the Champions League group stage, namely the defending champions of the Champions League and the Europa League. The club coefficient of UEFA associations ranks in the top four among the four associations, the top two among the five or six associations and the top three among the seven to ten associations. The remaining six teams will be produced through play-offs.
The predecessor of the Champions League is the European Club Cup. 1992/ 1993 season, uefa officially revised the competition system and name. After the reform, it still inherited all kinds of records since the establishment of the European Club Champions Cup, and there was no separate calculation. The old name of "European Club Champions Cup" was still retained on the championship trophy.
