On BEC examination experience
-Be sure to increase practical business knowledge and business vocabulary.
After I took the BEC exam last year and achieved good results, many friends and classmates around me asked me how to prepare for the BEC exam. Here, I want to tell you about my exam experience and introduce myself, hoping to give some help and inspiration to the students who will take the exam.
BEC, as a business English test, requires us to have a certain business background knowledge, not advanced, but must have a general understanding. If you want to take the exam, but you don't have much business knowledge, you'd better read some business books first and have a general understanding of economic, trade and financial terms, such as stagflation, promotion and FOB, before taking the exam. Otherwise, the understanding obstacles caused by these terms in the exam will affect your exam results.
Rich vocabulary is a powerful guarantee for getting good grades in BCE exam. I have always attached great importance to the accumulation of vocabulary, because I know that the amount of vocabulary determines the level of English. It's like a drop or two of water has no impact on the environment, but when 10,000 drops of water in Qian Qian form a lake and flow into the sea, it is enough to affect the climate. BEC requires us to master not only a large number of commonly used words, but also many business words. Memorizing words is not an easy task, but we don't have to worry about these professional words, because we all know quite a few of them, but we don't know their commercial meanings. For example, we all know that discount means discount, but it is also unique to businesses? Quot discount, discount rate ",for this kind of words, we only need to add a business meaning on the basis of the known meaning, and we don't need to recite from spelling, so the actual task of memorizing words is much reduced. However, the rest of the vocabulary needs us to "chew" from the beginning. When you are tired and tired of "chewing", I advise you to encourage yourself to continue reciting with "no pains, no gains". Here is a vocabulary book I used when preparing for the exam: Vocabulary of International Finance and Trade. This book collects a large number of comprehensive business words, which is of great benefit to improving business English and preparing for BEC.
In the BEC exam, reading questions account for a large number of scores and questions. Taking BEC3 as an example, reading is divided into six parts, including reading comprehension questions, cloze questions and error correction questions that we are all familiar with. There are three kinds of special problems. The first is cloze with no options. This kind of questions aims to examine the examinee's understanding of the article and his mastery of the fixed collocation of phrases and the sentence structure of grammar, which is not difficult to do. The second topic is to extract six sentences from an article and then mix them with another sentence, so that candidates can choose six sentences from seven sentences and fill them back in the original text correctly. Because there is an interference item in the option, and the matter described by this interference item is related to the content described in the original text, the problem is more difficult. Candidates should keep the coherence of the content and the rationality of the structure of the article as the basis for filling in sentences. Here I have summed up a trick, that is, carefully analyze the options and pronouns in the article, especially the two sentences before and after the article fills in the blanks, which is very effective for filling in the blanks correctly; The third question gives five advertisements and eight sentences, and asks candidates to match the sentences with the related advertisements. To do this kind of topic, we must read advertisements and sentences carefully, especially pay attention to adjectives and adverbs, which is often an important basis for judging which advertisement a sentence belongs to.
BEC's writing problem is divided into two parts, the first part is generally chart analysis, and the second part is mostly work report. Candidates need to master the format of business reports and the unique greetings and polite expressions in business letters and telegrams. These contents are easy to find in books about business letter writing. The difficulty of the oral test increases with the improvement of the level. During the examination, candidates are often divided into two or three groups, and then candidates discuss business issues in the group, and the issues discussed are designated by the examiner. These questions are practical, such as discussing sales promotion strategies. The oral examination can't rely on getting cold feet. Oral English is gradually improved through repeated practice. Students who want to get good grades in the oral exam, please act quickly to practice oral English.
BEC test is a practical test, so the contents selected in its listening test are generally real fragments of business activities, such as the general manager meeting with department managers to discuss the company's development prospects; The personnel manager tells the candidate what to apply for; Sales staff discuss the next marketing strategy. Candidates must pay attention to the background of the dialogue when listening, remember who said what when they heard many people discussing, and pay attention to the spelling of words when doing listening fill-in-the-blank questions. For example, personal should never be written or spelled as personal.
In a word, BEC is a very difficult comprehensive exam. I hope that those who are interested in applying for the exam can make preparations as early as possible and do a good job of preparing for the exam.
PS:BEC tutor experts talk about listening and speaking.
listen attentively to
Part 1 (Question 1- 12)
The first part is mainly telephone conversation. The answer sheet is divided into three parts, which appear in the form of forms, invoices, schedules and message notes. There are 4 blanks in each part. Candidates are required to listen to the tape and fill in the blanks (listen twice).
After getting the test paper, candidates should take the time to look at the questions and guess which words may be filled in the fill-in-the-blank questions according to the text information. Generally speaking, the contents to be filled in this part include: company name, name, serial number (telephone number, order number, etc. ), date, etc. This question mainly tests the examinee's word discrimination ability. When listening for the first time, candidates should try to write down relevant names, places and numbers. When listening for the second time, check the contents filled in and fill in the missing contents.
The contents of this part of the telephone conversation are generally: customer complaints, apologies, inquiries, reservations, orders, arrangements, plans, etc.
Part II (Question 13-22)
This part is divided into two parts, which are generally monologues of two people. Candidates must take time to understand the meaning of alternative words. These words are generally related to occupation and status, such as: hotel manager, salesman, technician, travel agency, engineer, chef, tour guide, money changer, etc. In addition, these words can also express functions and behaviors, such as: renovation, consent, exception, boring work, unforgivable office, low salary, ordering food, booking rooms, etc. Therefore, before listening to the tape, first, read the meanings of the optional words quickly. Then when listening to the recording, pay special attention to the key words, identify the main meaning of the monologue, and then make a choice. Be careful: some words sound like answers, but don't be too busy confirming them. You must wait until you have listened to all the recordings of this monologue before you can make a final answer.
Part III (Questions 23-30)
This part is usually a conversation between two or more people, such as meeting discussion, interview, general business talks, etc. In addition, it may not be a dialogue, but a monologue, such as business report, product presentation speech, work report, etc.
When doing this question, candidates should read the multiple-choice questions quickly to understand the background and general idea of the dialogue or monologue in the recording, so as to have a general direction when listening to the recording.
Candidates should carefully grasp the main content when listening to the recording, and never stop because they don't understand a certain question. In the process of listening to the recording, they can take some quick notes on each question, and record the identity of the people in the recording, the issues discussed and different opinions. If it is a monologue, try to find out the theme of the monologue and the people or things involved.
speak (of)
The total time of BEC oral test is about 14 minutes (a group of two candidates).
Part 1
This part is a dialogue between examiners and candidates. The questions asked by the examiner generally include: name, occupation, major, whether you like your job or major, why you like it, and so on.
In addition, the examiner will ask the candidate some questions, such as employment, and may ask: What would your ideal job be like? Do you think all companies should provide training opportunities for employees? Is the opportunity to work abroad important to you? Wait a minute.
When the examiner talks with one candidate, the other candidate must listen carefully, because the examiner asks candidate A: Do you think all companies should provide training opportunities for employees? After that, you may ask candidate B what do you think? If candidate B doesn't listen carefully, he should say sorry or forgive the examiner, which will affect the oral test.
The first part of the oral exam lasts about 4 minutes.
the second part
This part requires candidates to elaborate on a topic. Candidates answer the questions on the information card. For example:
What is important when …? Opening a branch in a new city-location-potential purchasing power
After the exposition, the review litigation raises questions about the content of the exposition. Candidates can generally answer questions well as long as they can understand the contents of the information card.
the third part
This part requires candidates to discuss a topic, and the examiner will intervene in the conversation in due course. Both candidates should take an active part in the discussion, and can't leave the problem to the other side to elaborate. The discussion is two-way. For example:
Business seminar Your company will hold a seminar on marketing. You are asked to help prepare for the seminar. Discuss the situation together and decide: what facilities and seminar arrangements you need, who you will invite to the seminar and how to contact them.
The above information card provides two discussion points, namely: what equipment is needed for the seminar and what arrangements need to be made; Who are you going to invite and how to contact them. Candidates should use their imagination, hold a seminar and consider what equipment they need, such as whiteboard, pen, projector, computer, water dispenser, coffee machine and so on. In addition, translators and secretarial staff may be needed. Consider the important people who must attend and so on.
When one candidate is expounding his point of view, another candidate needs to intervene at an appropriate time. In addition, candidates should be careful not to rack their brains to find the corresponding English to express the content of Chinese thinking, as long as the effect is achieved. If some candidates want to express "coastal cities", if they don't know coastal cities, they can express this meaning in other ways, such as coastal cities or cities at sea.
