Why is Puning Temple also called Big Buddha Temple?

In hot summer, people always want to find a cool place to escape the heat, and the summer resort in Chengde, Hebei Province is an ideal summer resort. On the hillside to the east and north of the summer resort, there are several temples with magnificent momentum and unique scenery, which are called "Waiba Temple". Puning Temple is one of them, also known as the Big Buddha Temple. There is a giant Buddha in the temple, which is 22.28 meters high and seven stories high. It is carved from five kinds of wood: pine, cypress, elm, fir and linden. It is the largest carved Buddha statue in the world. Because this giant Buddha has 42 hands and 45 eyes, it is called "Guanyin Bodhisattva with thousands of hands and eyes". This clay sculpture is symmetrical and magnificent, and each hand can accommodate one person to sit and lie down. On the top of the Buddha's head and the hat worn by the Buddha, there is also a sitting Buddha named Infinite Life Buddha, which is said to be the teacher of the giant Buddha and placed on the top of his head to show his respect. On both sides of the Buddha, there are good men and women who believe in Buddhism. There are many small Tibetan-style buildings around the Diange, and there are lecture halls and other buildings on the east and west sides of the Diange, which is the place for the emperor to rest after listening to the scriptures.
