My short time as a monk at Putuo Temple in Zhuhai (3) My master.

The last article was sent to the newspaper, which said something about the daily life in the temple. In fact, what I want to write most is the teachers in the temple.

For a temple, no matter how solemn, grand and ancient it is, there is no soul without a practitioner with both ability and political integrity.

There are many eminent monks and great virtues in Putuo Temple, such as the abbot who started the mountain and gave birth to a great monk, such as Lao Guo, one of the three treasures in Putuo Temple (there are three treasures in Putuo Temple: Maitreya Buddha, Buddha Pavilion and Lao Guo), such as Master Guangyi who has lived in seclusion for three years to study the Diamond Sutra, and of course, there are also young wizards who are full of poems and chanting scriptures.

Before I went, I never thought that the masters who practiced in the discipline were so vivid and kind. In the eyes of ordinary people, Buddhist precepts are strict, and monks should be rigid and inaccessible, or misunderstood because of many rumors in society. However, in Putuo Temple, all the wizards who met the Buddhist group were kind, lively, kind and compassionate. They not only abide by the Buddhist precepts and practice purity, but also are not divorced from reality. They can freely accept and leave this world. They advocate Buddhism with a compassionate heart and persuade all beings to be good, which is admirable. And this is also the reason why Putuo Temple is increasingly prosperous!

First, the abbot gave birth to a big monk the next day.

The abbot of the temple gives birth to a big monk sooner or later, which has many responsibilities. He is also the abbot of Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou, Putuo Temple in Zhuhai, Ningjuji Abbot in Foshan and yongfu temple Abbot in Jieyang. Usually rarely in Putuo Temple. Master Jin Shu said with a smile that it is impossible for a big monk to stay in Putuo Temple for three days all the year round. However, for this short-term monk class, the big monk still attaches great importance to it. He specially took time out of his busy schedule to shave the men's heads and made an announcement.

In fact, the history of Putuo Temple in Zhuhai is not long. From 2000 to 20 17, in a short period of 17, it has developed from a small temple into a grand and solemn Dojo, with a group of highly educated monks, integrating pilgrimage and meditation, charity education and Buddhist practice, attracting believers from all directions and showing the great talent of the great monks.

This year, Putuo Temple won the Third National Advanced Collective Award for Building a Harmonious Temple and Temple. This is the first temple church in Guangdong province to receive this honor.

At the same time, it also obtained the permission to establish a Buddhist English education base, which marked Putuo's official internationalization.

Second, the fruit of Putuo Temple, one of the "Three Treasures"

Besides the big monk born in the temple, there is also a monk: Master Guo Hui, the chief big monk.

(popular science here: saying that there are two monks in the temple does not mean that there are only two monks in the temple, but that it can be regarded as "monks." At present, they are two. Ordinary people call monks when they see them. In fact, in Buddhism, a monk is a kind of honorific title, which refers to a monk with certain cultivation. The rest are divided into monks according to different orders, all of which are called Misha. )

As for Lao Guo, I heard that there are three treasures in Putuo Temple: Maitreya Buddha, Buddha Pavilion and Lao Guo. Why can monks be compared with Buddha and Buddha Pavilion? Because of Lao Guo's profound knowledge and excellent memory, he is called a walking dictionary and a living collection of scriptures.

Listening to Lao Guo's class is a kind of enjoyment and also a kind of torture. Enjoyment is the result of the old lecture, which is unconstrained and unconstrained, ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, astronomical geography, Buddhism and Confucianism, omnipotent and omniscient, humorous in language, and closely related to the local flavor. Even our laity the glory of the king and Meituan know take-away, and Master Wu and his lectures are dry goods over and over again. The two-and-a-half-hour class was almost a speech without words, and the time passed unconsciously under his witty remarks. The torture is that the old class has no PPT. For me with poor memory and zero basic Buddhist IQ to be recharged, a lesson with great information seems to have heard everything and understood everything, but it seems that I have not remembered anything.

So, do you want to attend Lao Guo's class?

Yes!

Do you want to do PPT?

Yes!

Master Guangyi studied the Diamond Sutra for three years.

Master Guangyi is also a legend. Born in Sichuan, he was a lecturer at Sichuan Buddhist College. In such a prosperous place as Tantric Buddhism, he came to the south to practice. I lived in seclusion for three years and studied the Diamond Sutra. I didn't come out until April this year. At that time, the big monk and a group of believers greeted the master to go out, which became a great event in Buddhism.

(digression: our group discussed the graduation debate in front of the hall at five o'clock that day. We met the mage and said that his identity card had been cancelled and he had to go back to his hometown to handle it. So it's dangerous to close the door ! )

In addition, let me make a notice: From this month 12, Master Guangyi will hold a public welfare class at Putuo Temple from 2 pm to 4: 30 pm every Saturday to preach the Diamond Sutra. If you have the opportunity, you can go to the master's lecture.

Our first class in the temple was Master Guangyi's "becoming a monk" class. Master Guangyi told us that becoming a monk is not negative, but a positive attitude towards life. Monks are secular homes and troubled homes. It is extremely difficult to become a monk and do evil, such as fitzcarraldo, and it is extremely easy to get up at home, such as boating at sea.

When it comes to the eleven days in the temple, our schedule is full, and there is almost no time to stay outside except for classes. But I am honored to meet Master Guangyi in three different places and listen to his teachings in time. Especially one day, when I was uncomfortable doing acupuncture in the temple clinic, I met a mage who also came to do acupuncture, and took the opportunity to ask him a few questions. The mage also gave me a lot of suggestions and advice, telling stories of his own personal experience, which made my brother and I almost reluctant to leave.

Fourth, a hardworking and dedicated master.

Dai Jianyuan in the temple, known as Master Wu and Master Wang, is the second person in the temple. Personal experience is also legendary.

When he came to give us a lecture, the Macau brother sitting next to him quietly told me that Master was a hundred billion monks. The children from Jieyang also told me that the master is a rich second generation and his family is very rich. At the award ceremony of the advanced collective of the Advanced Harmony Temple, Master Jin Shu asked a lady to sit in front. When my brother told me that it was the mother of Master Wuhe, I was even more surprised.

The mage is young and promising. He is handsome and elegant, and his family background is extraordinary. In the secular world, he is a properly overbearing president. Why is he willing to give up everything in the world and convert to Buddhism? Moreover, there is even a strong backing behind it.

More importantly, the master brought his real management experience to the temple. This senior brother said that since he came to the temple, he has made drastic reforms and vigorously rectified the appearance of monks. Today, the image of the temple is brand-new and the management is improving day by day. I feel the same way about it. Just from the prestige of the monk group, the image of the temple, and the exquisite details in all aspects, we know that the master has made a lot of efforts.

In this short-term monk class, Master Wu He also enlightened us, educating us to live in harmony with people around our families, to find our own position, to remember our responsibilities in society and at home, to be a "person" first, to do our own thing well, to fulfill our responsibilities as a citizen, and not to abandon our responsibilities in order to learn Buddhism.

The master said, "Give your best to the world, and it will be returned to you."

For this monk class, the master attaches great importance to everyone's feedback, tests the results through the debate contest and graduation summary, and emphasizes that everyone should write down their opinions and suggestions on the temple and this course. And made public his micro signal. Brother Macao whispered, Master, do you want to find talents for the development of temples? That's really well-meaning!

5. Ming Jie, a master, and An Shiguo, a Buddhist inheritor, combine kindness and prestige.

Soon after I came back from becoming a monk, I sent the above photo to my friend:

These are my two favorite masters.

The friend replied: I like it, too! It feels comfortable at first sight!

Learn from the teacher quickly! Then I'll hug my thighs!

Ha!

I also want to worship.

These two masters are Master and Master Anguo. (In order to make up for the regret that the sneak shot of Master Anguo was not perfect yesterday, it is necessary to add some handsome photos to set the record straight. Yes, this is the true face of Buddhists! )

Huh? We agreed to show the handsome photos of Buddhist teachers, so why should we show Master Ming Jie? Why do you have to put pictures of two wizards together? Actually, I'm also ambivalent.

But one thing, these two wizards have an unusual tacit understanding. Whether presiding, lecturing or outside the classroom, their cooperation is quite tacit, their gas fields are similar, and they are also full of wisdom, knowledge, humor, elegance and solemnity. I like watching their interaction. Look, the photos of them together, how harmonious, in secular terms: a pair of good friends. Amitabha, please don't hit me with a board.

)

Master Ming Jie is our monk teacher. Monk students on duty probably refer to the master who is responsible for our study, diet, sleep and discipline during the monk's class. Anyway, from beginning to end, the person who has the most contact with us all the time is Master Ming Jie. And we are used to seeing his figure every day to feel at ease.

Master Ming Jie likes two things. One is to ask questions and let us go around. For example, "Do you know your stupidity?" "I know." He who knows he is stupid is not stupid. Make us speak one leng one leng. He also used to start with "I'm sorry" and invited us into the set. When we were speechless, he smiled happily with a microphone.

Another thing that the mage loves most is hitting people with a board. However, that was when we were late collectively. At 4: 30 in the morning, when Putuo Temple was still shrouded in the dark sky, the bell of the temple had rung, but only a few people stood in front of the main hall. Master Ming Jie, holding a surfboard, flew all the way to meet people who were late. Everyone is ashamed and convinced. However, although hitting the board is a punishment, many senior brothers are still willing to stand still and let him hit, because of guilt and because Master is kind, it doesn't hurt at all. Those who missed it even begged him: Master, give me a blessing. I also went to him to "bless" and was scolded: stand back.

I remember once in class, at my desk, he talked lightly about his experience of being spread by cancer cells, so as to persuade me to cherish life. Only then did I know that Master had just got rid of the disease.

And these eleven days and nights, he accompanied us every day. He is the first person to appear in front of the hall in the morning and the last person to accompany us every night. When other wizards were in class, he patrolled and kept an eye on the progress. After class, he led us to various parties. Even when we were eating, he was patrolling back and forth. Sometimes I wonder if he needs to sleep, rest or eat. It is such a wise mage who abides by his duties, a mage who smiles kindly like spring, but has a dignified attitude of not being angry and arrogant when he doesn't laugh, but he is reluctant to punish us loose earthlings.

I remember his worst time was because the squad leader privately mobilized everyone to "follow the joy" and provide food for Master. When Master Ming Jie learned this, he was severely reprimanded, and then immediately printed a notice stating that Puyuan Temple had never entrusted any organization or individual to raise money in the name of the temple and sent it to us.

Another time, in the Dharma Hall, we were reprimanded by the master Ming Jie on the other side for not sitting on the futon in time, because the master who led us made way. At that moment, in the quiet and solemn temple, we really felt his majesty. Therefore, it is not that Master Ming Jie is not strict, but that he is very kind to us!

As for Master Anguo, our head teacher, Master Jin Shu, praised him as a young mage without knowledge.

A brother from Jiangsu told me with a serious face: Master Anguo was sent by the Buddha to preach the Dharma.

Why do you say that? Because before becoming a monk, the mage did not fall into an empty net for love or for all kinds of misfortunes in the world, as everyone imagined. Even before becoming a monk, everything went smoothly and the young man succeeded. His becoming a monk is a thorough understanding of life and a yearning for Buddhism.

In Putuo Temple, it is customary to call Master Anguo a "Buddhist".

Why is it called "Buddhist"? In addition to his dharma name "Anguo", it is also because of his talent and wisdom. Master Anguo is young and knowledgeable. Before becoming a monk, he had finished his graduate studies. After becoming a monk, he studied at the Buddhist College of China Academy of Sciences and was a graduate student of psychological capital. He is also one of the leaders of the preparatory group for the Buddhist English education base designated by the master.

Master Anguo is not only brilliant, but also eloquent, because he studied education before becoming a monk. When he presided over the class meeting for the first time, people were impressed by his talent and excellent evolutionary ability. Later, he saved the scene many times in the fierce debate in the class, showing the great tolerance of a generation of masters.

The course taught by Master Anguo is a very grounded "Buddhist outlook on life". He said that Buddhism has something to do with everything. Understanding Buddhism can help you to re-understand life, re-establish life and re-naturalize life. He said that Buddhism is the yoga of the mind. How can we emancipate our hearts without mental tempering and inner changes? And liberation is the liberation of thought, so that thought is no longer bound by wrong ideas.

Remember the Buddhist question:

"Do you believe in tomorrow?"

"believe"

"Do you believe in an afterlife?"

"……"

"The afterlife is to pull tomorrow infinitely long."

Six: the sincere master who devotes himself to practice.

Master Zhicheng is my gift guide. The usher divides us 120 into 12 groups, and each group sends a master to manage life and study affairs. Master Zhicheng used to be the representative of the teaching mage in the lay class, but he didn't arrange courses for us this time.

Master is warm and fair, and has the elegance of a scholar. Volunteers in the temple say that your master is a gifted scholar. I have seen the photos in Master's mobile phone, as well as all kinds of Mo Bao calligraphy and paintings written and drawn by him. Sure enough. Master, like a real monk, is gentle, indifferent and devoted to practice. No matter how urgent things are, Dou Yun is indifferent in front of him, and we also slow down in front of him. Every time we look at other people's cigarettes, we feel at ease. Only when discussing whether it is better to "listen more and learn more" or "learn more", Master advised us that life is short and our energy is limited. If you want to practice, you should study more.

However, master also has his critical moment. After hesitating several times, I still threw a few questions in my heart. Master was in a hurry, and solemnly gave the answer. After class, he immediately went to the book circulation office to ask me for it. Also left a micro signal. After leaving the temple after graduation, I was still worried and repeatedly told me to get rid of other thoughts and concentrate on my studies.

……

The above masters are the ones I have the most contact with in this monk class. Of course, there are not only the above-mentioned masters, but also masters who are always warm and kind, such as Zhan Kong who teaches etiquette, Kuan De who teaches karma and fate, Wu Ding who teaches Buddhism and filial piety, Ru who teaches Buddhism how to practice, and even a teacher who teaches calligraphy, Wu Quan who teaches Zen tea, and handsome after 90.

I have been away from campus for many years, but I haven't felt such warm feelings between teachers and students, and eleven days together have also given me a new understanding of traditional teaching methods. Grateful to Putuo Temple, grateful to the wise and loving masters. This experience will remain in my memory forever and become a beautiful page in my life. Let me always remember, always be moved and always be merciful.
