What is a university?
In the development of modern universities, especially in the nearly 200 years since the establishment of 1809 Berlin University, universities have always existed as academic and cultural institutions, with the mission of cultivating talents, developing science and serving the society. Mr. Cai Yuanpei pointed out in the University Order drafted in 19 12: "The purpose of a university is to teach profound knowledge, cultivate masters and materials, and meet the needs of the country." In short, a university refers to a place where common sense is taught. The knowledge here not only refers to science, but also includes personality and morality. A university is an institution of learning through and through.
In my opinion, the university is "big"!
First of all, a university is a place that openly pursues the truth, and all research opportunities should serve the truth. Pursuing truth in university is the basic requirement of human spirit. As Aristotle said, I love my teacher, but I love truth more! A university must be a place to study and pursue truth, and there are many and wide truths, which leads to a university must be big!
Secondly, a university must be a place where people from all corners of the country and their cultures can be accommodated. As advocated by Mr. Cai Yuanpei, only when people from different cultures and regions collide with each other can they discover and learn the truth, and a hundred schools of thought contend, so as to realize the freedom of speech, thought and action, and everyone can express his opinions freely. This leads to the necessity of large universities!
But today's China University is getting smaller and smaller. It's not big, it's small. In my opinion, no university is as good as "primary school"!
Power conflicts are everywhere in universities; The bureaucratization of university organization, the bureaucratization of university value and the bureaucratization of university management have become the main characteristics of universities. There are resource crisis, value crisis, system crisis, quality crisis and credibility crisis in universities. As a result, the social output of universities is not enough to provide the capital of university self-esteem. The society questions universities in this way: "The more papers piled up in colleges and universities, the less high-quality products, and the higher the academic qualifications of students, the more difficult it is to find jobs. Some colleges and universities are becoming more and more bureaucratic, and the consciousness of "official standard" is getting stronger and stronger. How many degrees should the' ivory tower' in people's minds be tilted ... "Nowadays, universities have been excessively touched by society, derailed from society and cast a thick haze. Is the university still big now?
Wake up, people of China. Young people in universities are the future of China. If universities stop pursuing the truth and criticize officials, and if universities can no longer accommodate a hundred schools of thought, will it still be big? Is China still big? How far can China go in the future?
