Two spies came to Jericho and spent the whole day asking questions, testing the morale and military discipline of the soldiers guarding the city, and trying to find out the firmness of the wall. Jericho is the most important stronghold in Canaan, and Joshua's army can only move on if it is captured.
After dark, the spy who went into town hid in the house of a woman named Rahab. But it didn't take long for things to come to light. Someone reported that two foreigners were spying on state secrets around the city, and the government immediately sent someone to catch them. Hearing the knock at the door, Rahab immediately went up to the roof with two spies and covered them with a bundle of hemp straw. Because almost every roof of the local people will be covered with hemp grass, the soldiers searched and left. Afterwards, Rahab took a new red hemp rope and sent two spies to escape from the roof. The soldiers guarding the city have left, so it is easy to get out of the city. Rahab made an agreement with the spies: "When your men occupy Jericho, you must ensure the safety of my family and friends. The spy immediately agreed to let Rahab tie the rope to the windowsill to make a mark.
The spy returned to the camp and reported the situation to Joshua. Upon hearing this, Joshua immediately decided to lead the troops to cross the river and attack the city. Under the protection of the Lord, when they reached the bank of the Jordan River, the river stopped flowing, the priests stood in the middle of the riverbed carrying the ark, and the soldiers walked through the dry riverbed and reached the other side safely. After they left, the river began to flow again.
Cautious Joshua turned to God for help, and God sent an angel to help him. So Joshua's army walked around Jericho every day, and the priests carried the ark and blew horns. On the seventh day, the wall of Jericho suddenly collapsed and Joshua's army successfully attacked the city. All the creatures in Jericho were killed except Rahab and her friends.
Before going to war, Joshua made several military disciplines, one of which was: all trophies should be handed over to the holy curtain, and it is forbidden to take them away or hide them without permission. However, a soldier named Forrest Gump of the Jewish tribe violated military discipline, stole hundreds of silver coins, gold and clothes and hid them under the carpet of the tent.
Joshua did not know about this and continued to lead the Western Expedition. The people of Ai City showed strong resistance. As soon as the Jews attacked, they attacked the enemy. After several rounds, the Jews suffered extremely heavy losses.
Joshua realized that someone must have done something disloyal to God, and he sent troops to investigate the matter. Achan naturally refused to admit it, but Joshua found him by drawing lots and he had to give up everything. The soldiers threw all the stolen goods into the fire and killed Forrest Gump.
After that, Joshua led the army to lure the enemy into the depth by deception, and attacked the enemy before and after the narrow mountain pass. After a few hours, the tenacious Ai army was completely annihilated. So Ai was slaughtered, and Joshua even set the city on fire.
Later, Joshua captured other cities in Canaan, killed five allied kings and hung their bodies on trees to warn other kings. After the victory, Joshua built a holy screen in Jian Luo, and Shiloh became a new religious center of the Jewish people. Jews finally have their own homes, live a simple life again, form the same nation and believe in the same god.
Joshua, who led them to victory, has become an example for people and an object that people are scrambling to emulate.
