First of all, they describe different events. Teahouse shows the darkness, corruption and strangeness of China society in three times: the Reform Movement of 1898, the warlord melee and the eve of the founding of New China, as well as all the people in this society. The Old Pub shows the social changes in Northeast China and even the whole country from 1928 to 1946 during the Republic of China.
Then the purpose of store management is different.
Wang Lifa inherited his father's business at the age of 20 and became the shopkeeper of Yutai Teahouse. His aim is to run the teahouse well and carry forward his ancestral business. Simply put, it is to make money.
Chen Huaihai in the old pub is for stability. Treat people who enter the store equally, rich or poor, and convince guests to come back next time with the hard power of the pub. However, the difference between him and Wang Lifa is that he is not just flattering and smooth, but a little rigid. He opened a shop to treat people, the most important thing is wine virtue and personality, not mercenary. Even if you are his biggest customer, he will not hesitate to embarrass you or even kick you out.
Third, shopkeepers have different choices in dealing with current affairs.
Wang Lifa, the shopkeeper of the teahouse, used the method of "improvement and reform" to deal with every change. The pub owner Chen Huaihai, from the small building to the two-story building, China's characteristics remain unchanged, the messy tone remains unchanged, and his modesty and prudence remain unchanged.
There is also the story of the teahouse, which happened in Beijing. Basically, people with money and leisure are gathered in it. But Mr. Lao She did not ignore the sufferings of that era. For example, there was a famine at that time, and the poor sold their children, so that "five catties of white flour for one child", and the poor families were forced to sell their daughters to eunuchs. There are even beggars who beat the shoulder blades of cattle all day and beg with auspicious words.
However, in the old pub, there is no such sad expression of ordinary people. Pubs are full of people with feelings, tastes and persistence. Is it really that the northeast is rich in resources, even the branches are full of honey water, and there is no hunger and extreme poverty in the three northeastern provinces?
So I think we can see their differences from these aspects, and I think teahouse is more meaningful.
