What is theme sublimation?

Theme sublimation refers to the means and process of expanding the meaning of the events described in the works, perfecting the theme content, and making the intention of the article enter a broader and higher realm.

The sublimation of prose theme is mainly reflected in the end of the article. Although there are not many words, they have vital power, which is thought-provoking and enlightening. The famous essayist Yang Shuo's "Litchi Honey" is the masterpiece of this kind of works. Described litchi forest, tasted litchi honey, and interviewed beekeepers. At the end of the article, strange peaks appeared one after another, and the pen changed, from praising bees to deeply praising hardworking, simple and silent farmers. Finally, with the words "I had a strange dream, I became a little bee", the article was completely refreshed and the theme was completely sublimated.

There are many ways to sublimate the theme of prose. This paper only talks about two most commonly used and effective methods.

One is called association expansion, which points out the theme.

In prose creation, there are a large number of famous articles that use symbolic meaning. Like Yang Shuo's "Litchi Honey", this kind of works all use the method of association expansion to point out the theme at the end of the text and sublimate the theme to a brand-new realm. For example, in Jia Pingwa's "Chou Shi", the author first wrote about Chou Shi's ugliness, and then wrote that this piece of Chou Shi was a falling rock, which had an extraordinary experience. It once "filled the sky, overheated and flashed in the sky", and people "looked up to it, which gave people light, yearning and longing". At the end of the article, Qiu's association was extended to the society, and he strongly praised "the greatness of surviving without giving in to misunderstanding and loneliness", which made the theme of his works completely sublimated.

The methods of association are: similar association, such as Mao Dun's praise of poplar, from the simplicity and tenacity of poplar to the farmers in the north, and then to the simple, tenacious and enterprising spirit that is indispensable for our Chinese nation in the liberation struggle; Close to association, such as Yuan Ying's "Jinggang Cuizhu" is a person who associates Jinggangshan with bamboo in Jinggangshan; Causal association, such as Peng Jingfeng's "Pear Blossoms on the Postal Road", is associated with people from all fronts in the country learning from Lei Feng to serve the people.

Typical reading examples: Style of Pine Tree by Mao Dun, Praise of Poplar by Mao Dun, Litchi Honey by Yang Shuo, Ugly Times by Camellia Fu and Jia Pingwa.

Examples of writing training: lock, grass, stone ode, virtue of candle, praise of chalk, etc.

One is called "turning around" and "point development".

The Story of Yueyang Tower, written by Fan Zhongyan, a politician and writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, is a well-known and beautiful article, which describes the scenery of Dongting Lake and people's different feelings of seeing things in large sections. And look at things and thoughts with an almost ordinary eye, which almost brings readers into a foggy situation. Until the end of the article, the author reversed his previous emotions and wrote impassioned words of "don't be happy with things, don't be sad for yourself" and "worry about the world first, and enjoy the world later", which can be described as clearing the fog for readers, shocking the world and opening up a new realm. In this way, the author thinks that the theme of the work is hidden at the top of the mountain and needs us to get it through twists and turns.

Of course, the sublimation of the theme first benefits from the sublimation of the author's thoughts. Without the author's noble ideological realm, there can be no sublimation theme. Only by standing high, seeing far, and overcoming all kinds of confused concepts or secular intolerance can we write excellent works that let readers enjoy the magnificent scenery.

To sublimate the theme of the work, we must also pay attention to: first, write with intention first. When you conceive prose, you should have the overall situation in mind. No matter how you describe an event or scenery, you must keep it in mind. Without careful consideration in advance, it is impossible to temper a shocking and thought-provoking theme. The second is to pay attention to bedding. Sublimation theme is by no means passive water and rootless wood. Studying these ancient and modern model essays carefully, we can easily find that the finishing touch at the end of the article lies in the fact that the whole article is drawing a dragon. With the finishing touch at the end of the article, the whole dragon can take off, but in fact all previous efforts are for the finishing touch at the end of the article. It seems that Zhong Kui painted by Wu Daozi, a famous painter in the Tang Dynasty, is all about the little finger, and all his strength, posture and eyes are focused on this little finger.
