The mantis's predation method is as follows:
When the prey moves within the range of mantis's activities, mantis will respond, turn its head to the direction of the prey, keep an eye on the prey, tighten its front foot, move its center of gravity backward, and keep its eyes on the prey. When the time comes, mantis catches its prey at an extremely fast speed, stabs its claws into its body, grasps it tightly and eats it.
Mantis is a carnivorous insect, preys on all kinds of insects and small animals, and can kill many pests in fields and forest areas, so it is a beneficial insect. Cruel and aggressive by nature, food shortage often leads to the phenomenon of big swallowing and female eating male. Individual species distributed in South America and Southeast Asia sometimes attack small animals such as birds, lizards or frogs.
The habit of mantis
Mantis likes shade and is afraid of heat. Most of it lives in fields, grasslands and forest bushes. Generally, it is active when the temperature is 18-22℃ and the relative humidity is 75%-85%. In summer, it is usually active in the early morning, hot and dry at noon, between leaves or crops, and then comes out in the afternoon when the temperature drops.
Every spring to the end of autumn is the hunting season for mantis, which can eat more food than its own weight every day. When it eats 1 worm, it will wash its face with its front feet like a cat, and then return to its original state of waiting for its prey with its legs crossed. I hid in the leaves at hot and dry noon to cool down intermittently, and didn't start working again until the temperature gradually dropped in the afternoon.
