Fayoum Oasis is the closest oasis to Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Located in the southwest of Cairo 100 km, it takes about an hour by car. It is one of the five oases in Egypt. Different from the Siwa Oasis in the west, it has a superior geographical position. Fayoum, a city formed as early as 4,000 years ago, is one of the oldest cities in Egypt and even Africa.
Fayoum has a long history, which can be traced back to the Pharaoh's era in ancient Egypt. The correct pronunciation of Fayoum is "Alef youm", and the Chinese pronunciation is Alef Youm, which means "1000 days". Then why is this city called the city of a thousand days?
It comes from a story: About 4,000 years ago, during the Pharaoh's era in ancient Egypt, there was a man named "Yue Se". He is a saint described in the Bible. He came to Egypt to help the ancient Egyptian pharaohs interpret their dreams. This is a dream about the fate of the country. Pharaoh dreamed that his country had seven years of bumper harvest and seven years of drought, and there was not a drop of rain. This dream makes Lao Wang very anxious. It hasn't rained for seven years, which means there is no harvest. Pharaoh asked Joseph to solve the problem. Joseph suggested that we can use the seven-year bumper harvest to grow more food and then store it for the famine year.
However, at that time, the valley where the land could be cultivated was already full of crops, so Yue Se suggested to Pharaoh to open up new land to grow food. Joseph's eyes turned to Fayoum, which was then a swamp. When the Nile overflows, the river will flood here, which was called "the place where the crocodile god lived" by people at that time. Ministers became suspicious of Yue Se, so they suggested to Pharaoh, "It is ok to farm there, but there must be a time limit." Pharaoh gave Yue Se a thousand days to grow all the food in one thousand days.
When Yue Se ordered people to dig a river ditch to drain the accumulated water, he found that there was fertile soil, even the best land in Egypt. Therefore, in 1000 days, Joseph turned this swamp into a "granary" of ancient Egypt. The land here can be planted all year round, and Fayoum is still the granary of Egypt.
Fayoum Oasis has the oldest lake in the world-Lake Morris, also known as Magic Lake. In ancient Egypt, people often worshipped the sacred crocodile god here.
Now, this lake has become a tourist attraction in Fayoum Oasis. Standing by the lake, everything in the past disappeared in the long river of history, leaving us only this shrinking gallon lake.
Fayoum Oasis has a rich cultural landscape: there was the Ketebei Mosque commissioned by the wife of Sultan Ketebei in the 5th century (at that time, there were few mosques commissioned by women, and Sultan Ketebei was the owner of Alexander Ketebei. ), as well as the pyramids of Amenemcht III and West Nucete II, the archaeological sites of Hawala, and the Galen Lake Temple dedicated to the crocodile god Sobec. ...
In addition, the whale valley, Egypt's only world natural heritage, is here.
When you come to Fayoum, you will have a unique two-day trip. On the first day, you will visit pyramids and temples in different periods, you will go sand skiing and camel riding in Fayoum Desert, you will go to the ancient Galen Lake to play with water, and you will camp in the desert. ...
The night in Fayoum is a starry night. You will see the stars all over the sky, you will see the Milky Way, and you will have an unforgettable night.
The next day, you will see another kind of scenery, and you will visit WaDalyell Layan Nature Reserve. Here you will see the largest waterfall in Egypt.
You will visit the ancient whale fossils in Whale Valley. Witness the evolution of whales from land creatures to marine creatures, and their calves and legs will enter your mind deeply.
