Yu Jieren (1908~1971), male, was born in Zigong City, Sichuan. In his early years, he studied at the Department of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Chengdu Medical College. Mr. Yu's right arm was injured when Japanese invaders bombed Chengdu during the Anti-Japanese War. He only has his left hand, but he can write 8 kinds of characters (Yan, Liu, Su, Ou, etc.). His calligraphy is neat and fluent, and he can diagnose pulses. They all use their left hand. Mr. Yu is highly praised for his thorough clinical inquiry, careful syndrome differentiation, affable attitude and excellent curative effect. Although he was seriously ill at home in his later years, he still studied medicine and worked tirelessly. At that time, the author was in the period of self-study as a young man, so he often sought advice and benefited a lot. Now I have compiled some of his past medical words based on my notes for the reference of colleagues.
1. Syndrome differentiation of internal organs
The so-called enlargement of the liver and spleen is mostly due to coldness in the spleen, or injury due to excessive use of cold and cooling medicines. It seems to be swollen when touched, but it is actually due to cold accumulation here. The characteristic of cold spleen is the urge to defecate from time to time, but the stool is not much, slightly white, and likes hot drinks.
Stomach pain is caused by disharmony between the liver and spleen in 78% of cases, and in elderly patients, blood stasis is common.
Those who have bowel sounds or abdominal pain may feel relieved after breathing or belching, but may not be able to breathe. This syndrome is mostly due to cold dampness or sunken yang energy (more common in long-term illness). The treatment method should not use medicine to break Qi stagnation, otherwise although the syndrome is eliminated, the deficiency syndrome will be increased. The manifestation is that the Qi will be lowered on the day after taking the medicine, and the pain will become worse the next day. The treatment method should be mainly to promote stomach yang (that is, not to promote downward circulation). Medicinal uses include dried ginger, pepper, kudzu root, aoki, taiwan medicine, fennel, etc.
For those who have spleen yang deficiency and eat less, use grass fruits or nutmeg, but the oil should be removed (wrapped and burned). Nutmeg removes the coldness caused by excessive spleen meridian.
Constipation is not necessarily caused by heat, but is mostly caused by dampness, so the dampness should be cleared first. There is a difference between constipation and dryness.
For kidney cyst wind, Wuziyin (i.e. Wuziyanzong Pills) can be taken orally, among which Cnidoma monnieri should be used heavily. If you have kidney cyst pain, you can add Acanthopanax bark.

For tinnitus caused by kidney deficiency, the sound is high-pitched and tinnitus, accompanied by low back pain and other symptoms. Mainly use Hefengsuidan, plus calamus, polygala, and cinnabar; if it is caused by Wei Yangming, For those with fever, the sound will be low and turbid, and will continue throughout the day, thus affecting hearing. You should ask them about their diet and bowel movements.
Generally, low back pain is caused by deficiency or cold; Asarum must be used to treat cold pain.
To treat depression syndrome, we should differentiate between deficiency and excess. Yueju Wan treats depression caused by excess Qi, and Xiaoyao Powder treats depression caused by blood deficiency.
For rheumatic sores on the upper body that are itchy or painful, the following are the main symptoms: Ashwagandha, Atractylodes, Patchouli, Tangerine Peel, Shenqu, Pueraria, Aurantium Aurantium, and Mulberry Branch. All painful itching and sores belong to the heart, so coptis, cork, and gardenia can be added. If the itching is stubborn and embarrassing, add honeysuckle and reuse it (I usually use 100g and fry half of it in charcoal to penetrate the blood).
For wind-heat headaches, do not touch, or it will be worse if touched. Mainly use lotus leaves (heavy use) and less use of cohosh. For example, if Atractylodes is added, Qingzhen Decoction can be used to treat thunderhead syndrome.
For those who have auditory and visual hallucinations, difficulty falling asleep and easily waking up, it is effective to add white peony root, cinnabar, amber, and polygala root. However, white peony root and jujube kernel must be used again, 50 to 100g per dose, continuously. Take several doses.

If the throat is red and painful, add aristolochia and bean root; if the pulse is windy, add dispelling medicine; if the fever is severe, add a little laxative.

For the elderly who suffer from phlegm blockage and have a hot and flushed face, Sanzi Yangqin Decoction is often used. However, radish seeds must be stir-fried, white mustard seeds should be lightly stir-fried, and the same goes for perilla seeds.
Cold limbs and left rib pain are caused by cold stasis in the liver meridian. The main treatment is Cyperus fucifolia and Xuanfuhua decoction. If the scab persists, it should be treated with peony root, aurantium aurantium, pinellia, fried bupleurum, etc.
For any disease in which the symptoms of cold and heat are unclear and difficult to judge, the patient should first clear the intestines and stomach, treat it with Baohe Pills, Chengqi Decoction, etc., and then observe the disease.
If the cold disease is on the upper side, hot medicine should be used lightly; if the cold disease is on the lower side, the hot medicine should be used heavily, such as Fu Pian.
To treat strange diseases (that is, those that cannot be found to belong to the six meridians), treat phlegm first; if it is not effective, treat blood stasis next; if it is not effective again, treat deficiency.
There are three types of syndromes for enuresis in children: heat in the liver and gallbladder (enuresis in dreams); heart and kidneys wanting to have sex but not having sex (just waking up after enuresis); insufficient kidney yang (not realizing it when you wake up) ).
