Movable type printing is one of the four great inventions in China. It has gone through nearly a thousand years from clay type, wood type, copper type to movable type, and movable type typesetting is the end of movable type printing. Later, with computer typesetting, movable type typesetting and printing were eliminated.
There are roughly four printing processes: casting, typesetting, proofreading and printing. The first time I saw printing was in June 1986. I printed a literary periodical "Germination" published by Weixian Normal University in Nangong Printing Factory.
Everyone in the typesetting workshop keeps a large plate with a "full" shape for typesetting. The compositor holds the manuscript and the plate holder in one hand and the type in the other. The word plate holder is similar to the Xiao Mu dustpan in jiaozi, but this dustpan is stronger. One page 16 pages of type, which should weigh at least 20 kilograms after arrangement. If you are not strong, you will be scattered.
Typesetting is similar to typesetting. You have to memorize the plates, otherwise you can't "arrange". After arranging the plates, tie up the plates with thick ropes, and then make a sample proofreading.
The typesetting workshop area of Nangong Printing Factory is still quite large, so I made a sample in the typesetting workshop. At that time, I didn't have any sense of poisoning and pollution, but I smelled a thick ink, which was very useful.
At present, the typesetting of books and newspapers is computer-operated, the mouse insertion is very comfortable, and the typesetting is illustrated, clear and beautiful. Typesetting with high labor intensity, environmental pollution, little layout change and low efficiency has also entered history with printing.
