What is the slope blocking for?
The retaining slope is used to bury the bones of Buddha or saint, and often adopts a hemispherical building symbolizing the sky. Mario Bussagli pointed out that blocking the slope has multiple symbolic meanings, such as: the center of a mysterious force (the axis of the world); Cosmic form seen from the outside; As a tomb, monument or sacred place; As well as the Buddha's lectures and monuments of the holy land. It was also built on the newly occupied land as a symbol of sacrifice and loyalty to the land. It replaced the meaning of the altar and was regarded as the incarnation of the Buddha whose power spread all over the universe. According to some domestic scholars, blocking the slope means "the tree of the universe", "the cave of the gods", "the pillar of the universe" and "the beginning of Qiu Wei". One of the most famous slopes is Sanji Slope, which was built in 250 BC.
