During the pre-Qin period in China and the slave period in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, Lanling was a vassal state of the country.
During the Spring and Autumn Period, it was under the jurisdiction of Lu, and Ji Wenzi, a doctor of Lu, set up a branch city here.
Around 487 BC, Chu and Yue fought for hegemony and became a border town of Chu. Chu was the first country to implement the county system, so counties and cities were established at the beginning of Lanling.
After Qin Dynasty, the historical system of "Lanling County" was maintained in almost all dynasties.
During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Lanling County was also established.
During the reign of Chu State, it was once the short-lived capital of Chu State. Therefore, Lanling is the earliest place to establish county governance in ancient Shandong Province, and it is known as "the first county in Shandong".
